My favorite albums of 2013 in no particular order. Listen to the playlist on Spotify. Check the comments for a list identifying each artist, album name, and genre.
So there’s this thing.
This “thing” is still very much just a “thing,” but it’s a “thing” nonetheless.
What this “thing” is, despite still being very much in its infancy, is an idea – a developing goal that will hopefully materialize into an opportunity for myself as well as for other designers, creatives, and students.
The “thing” I am referring to is called Leap Year.
Leap Year is the direct result of my experiences thus far in the design industry and represents my initiative to eventually take my career to a new level. While there is no timetable whatsoever of when this project will literally exist, I do have a list of ideas of what I want to accomplish and achieve.
• It will be a creative studio.
• It will also be a collaborative space for creatives, designers, artists, and more.
• There will be a specific focus on interacting with students and to provide a direct resource for designers, developers, and creatives in general to come together for feedback and networking opportunities.
• It will be a collective.
Of course, nothing is final, and everything is tentative. It could take me years before Leap Year turns into anything viable. Obviously, I’d love for it to become relevant much sooner than that, but as I made it clear at the beginning of this post, it’s still very much just a “thing.”
But regardless of when Leap Year takes off, I am excited for what could be, and have a shit ton of hope for it to evolve into something special.
And naturally, I had to create a temporary logo.
I finished college at the end of 2011 and have been a “professional” designer for almost 2 years now. With this in mind, I realized I should probably have some sort of a working logo, mark or icon that represents my name (“Ryan Joseph Pickard” and/or “Ryan Pickard”) in some way, shape or form (see also: what the fuck ever).
A lot of inspiration was pulled from thick and heavy lines, the work of Aaron Draplin, and baseball team logos. Here’s what I’m working with…
